Welcome to the eBooster™ Engineering Tool
This tool is provided by eBooster™ (Ecas4 Australia Pty Ltd) for engineering sizing and
evaluation of electrochemical systems for active chlorine generation in drinking water and warm
water loop applications. It models the electrochemical production of hypochlorous acid (HOCl)
from chloride ions naturally present in source water — without the addition of chemical reagents.
System Estimator
Enter water quality parameters or load a water profile, then specify operating conditions
to receive a recommended system configuration and operating current for your target chlorine dose.
Advanced Model
Analyse a specific operating point in detail. Set model, current, flow and water chemistry
to obtain cell voltage, Faradaic efficiency, ohmic losses, outlet pH and scaling indices.
Please read carefully before proceeding
Model Limitations
This tool is designed for drinking water and warm water loop applications. The following limitations apply:
• Operating temperature range: 5°C to 45°C. Warm water loop mode is fixed at 43°C.
• Faradaic efficiency is estimated using a proprietary model with Arrhenius temperature correction. Results are indicative and may vary from field conditions.
• The Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) and electrode service life (ESL) are engineering estimates
only and do not replace laboratory water analysis or on-site verification.
• The polarity inversion interval is a scaling-risk indicator only, not a maintenance schedule.
• Conductivity estimated from ionic composition assumes dilute solution behaviour.
• Results are only valid for the eBooster™ B250, B2k and B10k models.
• The tool does not account for fouling, ageing electrodes, variable feed water quality,
or non-ideal hydraulic conditions.
For applications outside this scope, or where regulatory compliance is required, contact eBooster directly.

System Estimator — enter water quality and operating conditions to get a system recommendation. Start by loading a water profile or entering parameters manually.
How to use:
1. Enter parameters in 1. Water quality or load a water profile
↳ The water quality section will collapse automatically
2. Select the operating mode and related parameters in 2. Operating conditions
3. Review the recommended system in the results column

Current efficiency
ηF calculated?Faradaic efficiency — fraction of current that produces Cl₂ rather than O₂. For drinking water: computed from [Cl⁻] and temperature using a calibrated kinetic model (typically 5–20%). For sea water: fixed at 95% (high salinity saturates the kinetic model).
0.0 %
ηmax?Asymptotic Faradaic efficiency at saturating [Cl⁻] — model parameter, not the actual operating efficiency (which is much lower in drinking water). Calibrated from experimental data. Default: 90%.50 %
Km?Kₘ constant — [Cl⁻] at which Faradaic efficiency is half of ηmax. Calibrated from experimental data. Typical range: 800–1500 mg/L.1000 mg/L
Electrode & circuit parameters
Anodic overpotential (ηa)?Voltage drop at the anode beyond the equilibrium potential, due to kinetic limitations of the electrode reaction. Contributes directly to cell voltage. Default 0.65 V is representative of DSA electrodes at typical operating current densities.0.60 V
Cathodic overpotential (ηc)?Voltage drop at the cathode due to kinetic limitations of H₂ evolution. Contributes directly to cell voltage. Default 0.45 V is representative of stainless steel cathodes.0.30 V
Cable parameters
Total cable length?Length of DC cable between PSU and unit. Longer cables increase ohmic losses at high current.1.0 m
Cable cross-section?Cross-sectional area of the DC cable conductor (copper). Standard IEC sizes. Updates automatically with unit selection — adjust if your installation differs.2.5 mm²

Local electrode conditions
pH at the electrode surface estimated via Graetz-Lévêque diffusion layer model.
These are local values — bulk outlet pH is shown above.
Note: bulk pH change is typically very small due to bicarbonate buffering;
larger shifts measured on collected samples may reflect CO₂ degassing
during sampling rather than a true bulk pH change.
